What is integrative medicine? How does it differ from the typical care I receive?
Integrative medicine is a delicate integration of conventional medical care, holistic care, and nutritional therapies. Integrative medicine recognizes the conventional medical system certainly has its place, however, medications are often over prescribed and used as a first resort instead of a last resort. Medications are utilized to treat signs and symptoms, versus targeting the core of the problem. Conventional medicine is also an insurance based system limited by the testing and care insurance companies will allow. Insurance based care focuses on sick care, while integrative medicine focuses on getting to the core of a patient's problems so they can be well. When integrative medicine is utilized, the patient becomes well and is empowered to take care of their own health. Guided healthy eating, regular exercise, hormonal regulation, detoxification programs, nutritional supplementation, and a balanced lifestyle will become the patient's new health insurance. Integrative medicine employs traditional and non traditional testing and therapies. These therapies may include nutritional supplementation, IV therapies, holistic therapies, detoxification programs, hormonal therapies, and lifestyle modifications with healthy eating, improved exercise habits and sleep.
